Download Button Screen – CLEAR Button Function
Question: On the download page, there is a clear button. Pushing this clear button does what? I I’m not sure if it “un-does” all of the check-outs even after I’ve “COMMIT” them. I just don’t want to wreck anything up so I just left it.
Answer: I had the same trepidation when I first selected this button. It does exactly what it says……it “Clears” the screen of all transactions that have been uploaded (imported) from the hand held from this screen; whether they’ve been Committed or not.
Not a problem if they’ve been committed; as they’re no longer needed on this screen and you don’t want the screen clutter. And, the transactions uploaded from the terminal are still on the terminal – they won’t be overwritten until a new “Export” pushes the updated data to the terminal (IE., Import, Review, Commit, Export updated file).
So, make sure that first you SAVE your work (in case you’re interrupted in the middle of reviewing the transactions). Then, make certain, when your review of the imported/uploaded transaction is complete, to select the COMMIT button to merge the data with the main database. (‘SAVE’ only saves the review in progress, it does not merge the data with the database). Only COMMIT will merge the transactions you’ve checked; those unchecked will still be awaiting review.
Once ALL transactions have been COMMITTED, you can “Clear” the screen for the next time around. You can, also, if there’s a bit of paranoia about a new software, print a report from the Download window, before you “clear” the screen. That will give you a backup hard copy or electronic document.
