Depreciation
Question: I can’t get the Depreciation field to display for my binned items?
Answer: Depreciation is only applicable to “unique”, individual items. It does not apply to binned or ‘quantity’ items.
Unique, or individual items have their own unique barcode. There is only ‘1’ of an individually barcoded item in the system. It is easily tracked based on the information recorded in its information record, including the ‘In Service Date’. The ‘In Service Date’ is what Depreciation keys off.
Binned, or quantity items are not unique. There is simply one barcode that identifies a random group of items. Binned item quantities can be increased at any time, simply by adding additional quantities. With a grouping of items, there’s no way to identify one as an individual; no way to determine In Service Date for any particular item in the bin.
Therefore, there is no way to accurately calculate depreciation on any particular binned item.
